Plano-concave lenses convert parallel light beams into divergent rays, which appear to converge reversely at the lenses’ virtual focal points. Designed to diverge collimated beams from a virtual focus, plano concave lenses are commonly integrated into Galilean-type beam expanders.

Plano-concave lenses are widely integrated into a broad range of optical setups, including photography systems, imaging equipment, beam expanders, projection devices, and focal length extension modules of optical systems, as well as laser measurement platforms. They also serve as key components in telescopes, camera lenses, and microscopes.
AOS Optics offers customized plano-concave lenses—available in both uncoated and anti-reflection (AR) coated versions—tailored to your specific application requirements across different wavelength bands. Our AR coating options cover the UV, VIS, NIR, and SWIR spectral ranges.
We also provide plano-concave lenses fabricated from a diverse selection of substrate materials, each optimized for its respective spectral range: H-K9L optical glass is ideal for visible and near-infrared applications; germanium, silicon, zinc selenide, and calcium fluoride substrates are suited for infrared use cases; and fused silica is designated for ultraviolet applications.
