Microlens & Microlens Array: Key Technical Specifications & Industrial Applications

A microlens refers to tiny optical lenses with micron-scale apertures. A microlens array (MLA) consists of numerous microlens units arranged periodically. With the advantages of miniaturization, lightweight structure and parallel optical processing, microlenses are essential micro-optical components widely deployed in optoelectronic industries.

Key Technical Parameters

1.Aperture: Clear aperture of single lenslet, ranging from 20μm to 10mm. Custom shapes available: circular, square, rectangular and cylindrical.

2.Pitch: Center-to-center distance of adjacent lenslets, which defines array density. Tolerance can reach ±0.5μm.

3.Radius of Curvature: Surface curvature determining focal length. Spherical and aspherical profiles are manufacturable.

4.Effective Focal Length (EFL): Typical range from 0.05mm to 20mm, focal length tolerance ±1%.

5.Numerical Aperture (NA): Optional 0.1~0.45. Higher NA delivers stronger light collection capacity and smaller focal spot.

6.Sag Height: Vertical height from lens apex to substrate base, related to aperture and curvature radius.

7.Substrate Material: Optical glass, fused silica, chalcogenide glass, supporting visible, near-infrared, mid-wave and long-wave infrared bands.

8.Surface Roughness: Rq <10nm. Premium parts achieve sub-nanometer roughness to reduce light scattering loss.

9.Optical Coating: Anti-reflection (AR) coating, average reflectance ≤1.25% at target wavelength.

10.Surface Figure: Wavefront error, PV and RMS figure, capable of diffraction-limited imaging performance.

Main Application Fields

1.Light Field Imaging: Light field cameras and microscopic light field systems, supporting post-capture refocusing for 3D reconstruction.

2.Laser Shaping & Beam Homogenization: Converts Gaussian beam into uniform flat-top spot for diode laser and laser illumination systems.

3.Machine Vision & 3D Sensing: Structured light projector, ToF sensor and face recognition modules for consumer electronics.

4.Optical Communication: VCSEL collimation, fiber coupling and beam splitting to improve optical coupling efficiency.

5.Medical Optics: Miniature imaging probes and endoscopes to shrink the dimension of optical heads.

6.Automotive Optics: Automotive perception sensors, HUD and backlight homogenization.

7.Display Industry: AR/VR optics, backlight units and projection display systems.
