Applications of Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) Optical Components

Thanks to its excellent refractive index uniformity and stable batch-to-batch consistency, zinc selenide is a premium substrate for high-performance infrared optical systems. It delivers reliable performance across laser manufacturing, thermal imaging, analytical testing and aerospace sectors.

 

1. High-Power CO₂ Laser Optics

ZnSe is the industry-standard material for high-power CO₂ laser systems, valued for its low absorption, high thermal shock resistance and consistent transmittance across the 600 nm–16 μm band. It is the preferred choice for laser focusing lenses, output couplers, protective windows and other core laser optical components.

 

2. Infrared Thermal Imaging & Night Vision

With outstanding optical homogeneity and low wavefront distortion, ZnSe supports high-fidelity imaging performance. It is an ideal material for protective windows and optical elements in forward-looking infrared (FLIR) thermal imaging systems, and is also widely deployed in infrared night vision and surveillance imaging devices.
