Compared with cylindrical lens line generation, it effectively eliminates Gaussian beam issues such as central hot spots and dim edge fading.

When a Gaussian laser beam passes through a conventional cylindrical lens, it produces laser lines with uneven light distribution. In contrast, a Powell Lens (Powell Prism) features a complex two-dimensional aspheric top surface. As laser light transmits through, controlled spherical aberration redistributes the light path, suppressing central over-brightness and enhancing edge intensity, thus generating highly uniform straight laser lines.
Widely adopted in machine vision systems, our Powell Lenses are ideal for laser positioning, laser scribing, marking targets, laser scanning, precision measurement, food processing, biomedical testing, automotive assembly, chip manufacturing, online inspection for electronic devices, aerospace and marine industrial applications.
Fan Angle Range
AOS Optics supplies Powell Lenses with fan angles ranging from 1° to 120°. Standard available angles include 1°, 3°, 4°, 5°, 7°, 10°, 15°, 20°, 22°, 30°, 35°, 45°, 55°, 60°, 70°, 72°, 75°, 80°, 82°, 90°, 100°, 110°, 112°, 115°, 118° and 120°. Custom fan angles are available on request. The fan angle directly determines laser line length at a fixed working distance. Adopting advanced manufacturing processes, we ensure consistent line length performance across mass produced Powell Prisms.
Powell Lens Dimensions & Structure
Our standard Powell Prism dimensions include round types (Dia 4 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, 40 mm) and square types (6×6 mm, 6.35×6.35 mm, 9×9 mm). Custom sizes and structural designs are supported for special application needs.
Laser Beam Diameter Compatibility
We provide customized Powell Lenses compatible with circular, elliptical, square and rectangular laser spots. Supported beam diameters range from 0.5 mm to 18 mm. Precise matching between laser spot size and Powell Lens specifications is critical for uniform laser line output. We stock over 100 types of prisms for different spot shapes and sizes, with tens of thousands of units in inventory for fast delivery.
Line Uniformity
Laser line uniformity is the core quality indicator of Powell Lenses. Our high precision prisms meet international standards, achieving 80%–90% uniformity within 90% of the central line region. High precision linear laser systems rely on premium Powell Prisms to deliver stable and superior optical performance.
Line Straightness
With advanced processing technology, our Powell Lenses achieve up to 99.9% line straightness. Strict quality control eliminates common defects such as stray light, dark streaks and shadow lines around laser edges, ensuring reliable performance for precision optical applications.
