Double-convex lenses (or biconvex lenses) consist of two convex spherical surfaces and feature a positive focal length, enabling them to converge light to a focal point. These lenses are widely used in image relay systems and for imaging objects at finite conjugate distances, as well as for light beam focusing, collimation, and expansion.

AOS Optics offers double-convex lenses in both uncoated and anti-reflection (AR) coated versions, tailored to your application needs across various spectral bands. Our AR coatings—available for UV, VIS, NIR, and SWIR ranges—are applied to both lens sides, significantly reducing surface light reflection and enhancing the overall transmittance of the double-convex lenses.
We also supply double-convex lenses fabricated from a diverse range of substrate materials. H-K9L optical glass is ideal for visible and near-infrared band applications; substrates including germanium, silicon, zinc selenide, and calcium fluoride are suited for infrared use cases; and fused silica is designated for UV band applications.
Double-convex lenses are commonly integrated into optical instruments such as telescopes, microscopes, collimators, and thermal infrared imagers. They are also widely deployed across security, automotive, digital imaging, and laser cutting sectors—with applications in consumer electronics including cameras, surveillance devices, laser printers, and sensors—as well as in healthcare and environmental protection fields.
